You may have heard all about setting your intentions, claiming your day, affirming what you want or creating your outcome. However, you may wonder what it all really means.
This weekend I was given a huge gift. I have been taking care of an extraordinary and beautiful 12-year old young woman. She gets it from her momma who is also amazing and extraordinary, and happens to be one of my best friends. For privacy sake, we will call her Melanie.
I have been practicing intention setting for years, and some days the outcomes absolutely amaze me. Intention setting is where you wake up and make a #decision about your day before it happens. You may think, "How is that possible?" It's possible because you are more powerful than you think. Each morning we all wake up with a choice. We can choose to let the events of our day determine how the day goes, or we can wake up and claim that the day is going to be excellent, creative, prosperous, joyous, loving, productive, amazing and/or beautiful. You get to pick whatever words work for you. When we state out loud, with excitement and power, that our day is going to be a great day there is only a small chance that the day can go any other way. Obviously, we all have drastic things happen in our lives, and they do not generally happen every single day. With that being said, no matter what the day holds we get to choose how we react to it. Here is an example.
This morning Melanie woke up in a good mood. My morning intention was for us to have a great morning together that flowed easily and effortlessly. I had set that intention before I went to sleep last night, and when I woke up. After she ate breakfast and was ready to leave for school, we sat on the couch together chatting. I asked her, "So, what kind of day are you going to have today?" Since she is already aware of what claiming affirmative thoughts and setting intentions are, she immediately said, "It's going to be a GREAT day!" I asked her, "What else?" She responded with, "It's a FUN day! It's a day filled with positive energy! We gave each other a high five, and got ready to leave for school. As we drove to school, I asked her to choose a few #affirmations for her day. She said, "I am a BEAUTIFUL, and I am a QUEEN!" Again, we high-fived. Upon pulling up to drop her off, she affirmed that today is a day full of positive energy, fun and love. It was beautiful and #uplifting for my #soul as well.
She came home from school, only to tell me that she had gotten sick and vomitted after lunch. Apparently, that pretzel she ate did not agree with her system. Even though she got sick, she stayed at school and continued along with her day. She COULD have allowed it to derail her day, and she CHOSE not to. She remained in alignment with her intention and finished out her school day. What I would give to have had these tools when I was 12.
Each day, we wake up with a choice. Let me ask you this, "Do you wake up dreading your day?" Do you wake up with excitement? Do you wake up with gratitude that God gave you another day on Earth? Think about your immediate #thoughts when you wake up. Become aware of them. Remember, thoughts are only thoughts and they can be changed. We can pick the direction in which our day will go.
I challenge you to start tomorrow morning. Wake up and state that you are going to have an amazing, powerful and positive day. Remember that we can allow circumstances and situations to redirect or derail our day. No matter what, we have a #choice to come back to the #intention we set that morning. It's a choice. What will you choose?
With Gratitude,
Lindsey
